Your Mentor

Lynn Goldstein

I have spent decades working to improve my art, and would have loved to have had a steady guide to help me along in my artistic journey. Instead, I had several college instructors that discouraged me. That is one of the reasons that I decided to start teaching. I wanted to be an encouraging voice to help uplift other artists and help them to feel great about what they were producing. I have been teaching art to adult learners for over 20 years, and have been a professional artist during that time. Additionally, I worked as a tour guide at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery for over two decades, and have spent my entire life going to museums as well. As a result, I have years of experience studying art by the masters. I incorporate that knowledge in all of my classes.

What to expect

  • Learn to see your art differently

You will learn to talk about your art more clearly and also learn how to look at art more critically.

  • View image adjustments of your work

Lynn will show you ways to adjust your paintings to ensure that you understand her directions with image adjustments right on the computer screen so that you can see exactly what she is am suggesting.

  • Examples from other artists

You will also see personally selected examples from exemplary contemporary artists, and artists from the past that help to illustrate directions that you may want to pursue.

What students are saying....

"Lynn's online critique classes through Zoom provide a focused and detailed assessment of each student's paintings in our group and is most helpful to all of us. As in all her classes, Lynn shares her insight, experience and expertise, all for the purpose of intentionally yet gently guiding her students to the continual improvement of their own styles and skills."
 ~Susan L.

  • How often do we meet?

We meet one time per week on Tuesday mornings from 10-11:30am Eastern time.

  • Is there a structured format?

The critique sessions CAN be structured. Each week the students who want to do so may concentrate on specific art-making principles that are provided in weekly lessons.

  • Is there spontaneity as well?

Yes! Artists who have been in the group in the past, or artists who wish, work on what moves them. This program is designed to meet each artist where they are.

  • How exactly does it work?

Each week students send Lynn images, Lynn studies the images individually, and we discuss each piece together as a group. Lynn provides contemporary artists or artists from the past as examples to consider, and Lynn makes image adjustments on the art for everyone to see and discuss. We have so much fun!!
